Baby Jesus
Jesus is announced to the shepherds "in swaddling clothes in a manger" and in the crib is placed in a hut or cave. It is a newborn like all others fully human covered with a little sign of material poverty. In one form or another the representation of birth can never be separated from the prophetic announcement of salvation. Jesus opens his arms in a welcoming way. It is the most important figure of the crib and tradition has it that it is placed in the crib at midnight on the 24th between the Madonna and San Giuseppe
